Polluting emissions: the importance of filtration systems

It is not an emergency response but a daily job. The reduction of polluting emissions produced by industrial processes is a challenge that every company must win and concerns both entrepreneurs and national governments. When health and quality of life of the populations living near the production sites are at stake, we need a program that allows us to minimize the risk well before the concentration of harmful gases in the atmosphere exceeds the limits imposed by the law. For companies, having overcome the phase of emergency measures several years ago, programming is a must and could not be otherwise, considering the high level of attention on the part of the public and the scientific community. An example? Recent studies quantify in more than thirty thousand deaths a year in Italy, due to fine particles inhalation (data stateofglobalair.org). Of course, industrial emissions are just a small piece of a much larger puzzle, which involves virtually every aspect of our lives, but here solutions are not lacking.

Thanks to a thirty-year experience in the field of air filtration, Tama Aernova is among the international leaders in the design, production and supply of products for the purification of air from the various stages of industrial processes. We are active in all industries, from thermal cutting to pharmaceutical-chemistry, daily grappling with very different legislations and production conditions: from the very strict northern European countries to the regulatory attempts of developing countries.

Here's what our president Giovanni Coletti explained:

  • With the US taking a step back on the Paris Agreement on the reduction of polluting emissions, has a deregulation followed by companies at world level?

«On this issue, President Trump has remained alone at world level. The Paris Agreement in fact put the American industrial system in crisis, binding it to install filtering groups and to adapt to much more stringent regulations. But the other countries, from the Chinese Dragon to the Indian Tiger to the emerging economies of the former Soviet bloc are moving towards the application of increasingly stringent regulations on industrial polluting emissions, progressively approaching Europe».

  • In Italy, how much have weighed the Ilva scandals, the Eternit process and in general the attention of the media and public opinion on the systematic context of the limits of fine dust in the Po Valley?

«Surely public opinion has made its voice heard and the Italian and European system has been in line with the regulations and the sensitivity of industrials is also very high. There are a number of industries that have given themselves environmental protection, which imposes limits on emissions that are much more stringent than those in Europe. So, clarity is required: the smog emergency in the Po Valley city is more than just industrial pollutants, but also different harmful pollutants from domestic heating systems».

  • What do companies do to reduce the load of pollutants in the atmosphere?

«Contact specialized companies able to supply a wide range of filters and standard products, designed and built on the types of pollutants to reduce, which faithfully respect the technical and legislative standards of reference. Beyond that, we continue to do applied research, design prototypes, performance filters and systems that are validated by national and international bodies. With our technology, we have entered the industry of biomass combustion for the production of electricity, significantly reducing pollutants from biomass boilers in London and Belfast».
